The sixth month ...

A șasea lună de dezvoltare - Κεντρική Εικόνα

What it can do by the end of the 6th month of its life:

  • The control of the head and the strength of the neck muscles have been increased a lot.
  • It can sit with its hands stretched in front, when in prone position.
  • It can move its body weight on its feet when standing in an upright position (but this does not mean it can walk).
  • When you hold it in your arms, it grabs anything in front of it, like your hair, glasses, chains, and holds them tight to its hand without showing any intention of leaving them.
  • It addresses its toys, like speaking to them, by making various sounds.
  • It responds to sounds and noises by turning its head.
  • It can chew.
  • It recognises its mother, father and other close relatives.
  • It shows great interest in what happens around it.
  • It puts toys or objects in its mouth.
  • It can drink from a cup, held by an adult.
  • It may start consuming solid foods.
  • It can mumble and make monosyllable or two-syllable sounds, like “dah-dah”.

Attention! All children are different from each other and each one has its own growth rate. The development stages described are based on the average rate. Do not worry if your baby deviates from this average. If however you do notice something worrying in its development, contact your pediatrician.
